An Overview of Cape Town

This satellite picture of the Cape Town area helps you see how it is rimmed by rugged mountains both to the east and the north. When Cape Town was first settled as a colony of the Dutch East India Company in the 1600s those mountains were a significant barrier to expansion that allowed that colony to develop its own unique culture that was largely isolated from the rest of Africa. The distance from Kraiifontein (where we lived in 2004) to down town Cape Town is about 18 miles. In a circle with a radius of about 20 miles around Kraiifontein there now live about 4 million people. Our team in the Cape is currently serving in church planting ministries in the communities of Durbanville, Kuil's Rivier, Paarl, Somerset West, Oostenberg, Malmesbury, Bellville, and Kraiifontein.
